Year 7 Catch-Up Grant
The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading and/or maths at the end of key stage 2 (KS2).
Schools will receive an additional £500 for each pupil in year 7 who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading and/or maths at the end of KS2. At Rigby Hall School we received £7,500 for 15 pupils in year 7.
How we are currently using the year 7 literacy and numeracy catch-up premium
All of our year 7 pupils qualify for this funding and as a school we have decided to use the funding to support teaching and learning approaches that we know are effective. We organise learners into small groups and support them with additional support staff in one of the following ways:
- individual tuition
- intensive small-group tuition
We have used the money to cover staff CPD
- Maths intervention training
- PECS training
We have also used the money on resources
- Practical maths equipment – including Numicon
- Extending the library for age appropriate book content
- Spelling and reading interventions
We are always looking at new ways and approaches that would better support pupil progress, including new interventions and iPad apps to support teaching and learning, including literacy and numeracy.
