Sapling class has children in Reception and Year 1. We learn through play and engage in many exciting learning opportunities based on interests and on our learning themes.
This year we will be basing our learning on the following:
Autumn 1 - Colour
Autumn 2 - Space
Spring 1 - Get Set Go
Spring 2 - Dinosaurs
Summer 1 - All Aboard
Summer 2 - People Who Help Us
Our learning is based upon the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, and focuses upon 7 areas: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Through these areas, we experience a mix of whole class teaching, small group and individual work, as well as lots of play based activities to consolidate and extend learning.
Throughout the week we play many circle games, learning to take turns and follow instructions. We enjoy keeping active through dance routines and gross motor play in our outdoor area. We also work on our fine motor skills, especially enjoying our playdough disco sessions!
The staff who help the pupils to learn and play are Shelley Hughes (Teacher 4 days), Esther Booth (Teacher 1 day) and Kate Ryder, Zoe Carter and Rebecca Whitehouse (Teaching Assistants).
